Why exactly do we apply dental sealants? The foremost reason is to protect your pearly whites from damage resulting from bacteria and leftover food particles in your mouth. Continue reading to find out what we mean by this.
It can be tricky to brush every spot and corner of your teeth (including those hard-to-reach molars), but brushing and flossing your pearly whites are still the number one ways to protect your chompers from cavities and tooth break down. However, when it’s called for, we can use an oral sealant to shield your chompers. Dental sealants are protective coatings composed of plastic and composite oral materials that stick to your chompers. When you have an oral sealant on your tooth, bacterial acids will find it much harder to break through the enamel and cause any lasting damage – though you should still brush and floss to be safe! The oral sealant will only help to delay the tooth decay if you’re not brushing twice and flossing once per day.
